Why Play Bowls at Ashcombe Park?

There are lots of reasons to play bowls at Ashcombe Park. We are one of the longest established and largest clubs in the region.
  • Two top quality greens
  • Physical and mental wellbeing benefits
  • Exceptional coaching platform
  • Social events

We have two superb greens at the club which means that there is far more opportunity to be able to turn up and play, particularly in the evenings. Our greens are appropriately known as the top and bottom greens and are maintained by our fantastic Greens Team, supported by a professional company. Our greens are regularly used to host high level county bowls games, including the Fear Cup, Turnbull Competition and Wedmore Plate. We also hosted Bowls England national semi-finals. So we’re sure you will love playing on them and we pride ourselves on being inclusive.

Playing bowls offers a unique combination of physical and mental wellbeing benefits, making it a popular and enjoyable activity for people of all ages. Physically, the sport is low impact, enhancing cardiovascular health and overall fitness. The deliberate and controlled movements required in bowling contribute to improved flexibility, balance, and coordination. It is no coincidence that many bowlers continue to play competitively well into their 90s.

Mentally, the game requires strategic thinking, concentration, and mental agility as players strategically plan their shots to outmanoeuvre opponents. This cognitive engagement stimulates the brain and helps maintain mental acuity, particularly beneficial for older individuals in preventing cognitive decline. Overall, outdoor bowls is a holistic activity that not only contributes to physical fitness but also promotes mental resilience, social connections, and a sense of well-being.
