We have two superb greens at the club which means that there is far more opportunity to be able to turn up and play, particularly in the evenings. Our greens are appropriately known as the top and bottom greens and are maintained by our fantastic Greens Team, supported by a professional company. Our greens are regularly used to host high level county bowls games, including the Fear Cup, Turnbull Competition and Wedmore Plate. We also hosted the County Semi-Finals that lead to the National Finals. So we’re sure you will love playing on them and we pride ourselves on being inclusive.

Playing bowls offers a unique combination of physical and mental wellbeing benefits, making it a popular and enjoyable activity for people of all ages. Physically, the sport is low impact, enhancing cardiovascular health and overall fitness. The deliberate and controlled movements required in bowling contribute to improved flexibility, balance, and coordination. It is no coincidence that many bowlers continue to play competitively well into their 90s.
Mentally, the game requires strategic thinking, concentration, and mental agility as players strategically plan their shots to outmanoeuvre opponents. This cognitive engagement stimulates the brain and helps maintain mental acuity, particularly beneficial for older individuals in preventing cognitive decline. Overall, outdoor bowls is a holistic activity that not only contributes to physical fitness but also promotes mental resilience, social connections, and a sense of well-being.
We offer exceptional coaching for all levels of members. Coaching sessions run every Wednesday 10am and Friday 5.30pm and Sunday 10am from April to late September.
We have an active social crew who arrange social events throughout the year. They organize and lay on regular events in the winter to keep us all connected. This includes whist and short mat. We always say you’re never lonely if you’re a member of Ashcombe Park Bowling Club!
